Biography
Dr. Urfan earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from Ayub Medical College in 1994 and was awarded the Gold Medal for academic excellence. Dr. Urfan was later awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) in Pakistan. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom in 2002. He later earned certification from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). Additionally, he obtained subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology from the U.K. Dr. Urfan began his career in his native Pakistan and relocated to the UAE in 2001, and worked at one of Abu Dhabi’s top government hospitals. Before joining Burjeel Hospital, he worked in the same hospital as a Specialist Physician in the Oncology/Hematology subspecialty of the Internal Medicine Department. He has been actively involved in teaching postgraduate and undergraduate doctors throughout his career. From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Urfan served as Co-Director of the Arab Board Residency programs for postgraduate training of physicians.
Additionally, he is an Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor (ACLS). Dr. Urfan is an expert in his field. His primary areas of interest include treating all types of tumors, particularly breast, colorectal, and targeted therapy. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the European Society of Medical Oncology.
