Biography
Prof. Amr El Shawarbi graduated from Alexandria University with an MBBch in 1992, completed his residency, earned a Master’s Degree in Surgery -Neurosurgery, and began working as an Assistant Lecturer in 1998. He later completed his Scholarship, Fellowship, and Ph.D. at Hannover’s Nordstadt Hospital. In 2003, he earned a Ph.D./MD in Neurosurgery from Lower Saxony, Ak. Niedersachsen, as well as the Facharzt (German Board for Neurosurgery). Until October 2006, he worked as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the International Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, Germany. Prof. El Shawarbi joined Tawam Hospital as Head of the Neurosurgery Department in November 2006 and later became the Medical Director for Neuroscience at SEHA, where he pioneered skull base surgery, complex spine surgery, the establishment of SEHA’s first stroke program, pediatric neurosurgery, and neuromodulation. Professor El Shawarbi has also served as President of the Emirates Neuroscience Society, the Pan Arab Neurosurgical Society, and is currently serving as Vice President of the World Federation of Neuroscience Societies (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies). He is the author of numerous national and international publications.
