Biography

Dr. Gavin Malcolm Spence is a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon with over 25 years of experience in both surgical and nonsurgical treatments. His practice has been solely concerned with orthopedic problems in children, having worked at both of the leading pediatric hospitals in London that specialize in rare and complex cases. In 10 years as a Consultant, he has performed nearly 4,000 procedures independently. He was the first surgeon in the UK to successfully conduct a complex pediatric limb deformity correction with circular external fixation and/or intramedullary limb lengthening using Wittenstein fit to bone. After his Clinical Fellowships in Pediatric Orthopedics, he worked as a Consultant Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon with a special interest in limb reconstruction at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London. In addition to clinical work, he has a particular interest in teaching and served as a surgical tutor at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He ran several popular educational courses for trainees for many years and was named “Trainer of the Year” by the British Orthopedic Trainees’ Association in 2019. He spent two years at Cambridge University’s Orthopedic Research Unit while studying for his MD research degree and has contributed several important research papers concerned with basic science and clinical subjects.
