Biography

Dr. Shaden Almahamed is a Consultant Pediatric Gastroenterologist at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah. She specializes in pediatric digestive diseases, liver disorders, nutrition disorders, and endoscopic procedures in children. Dr. Shaden graduated from Damascus University’s Medical College in 2000. She earned an Arab Board degree in General Pediatrics in 2005 and then earned the MRCPCH 1 and 2 certifications from the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in the United Kingdom. She completed a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in Saudi Arabia and received training in pediatric endoscopy procedures at numerous specialized hospitals throughout the Gulf region. Dr. Shaden has an 18-year background in General Pediatrics and an 11-year background in Pediatric Gastroenterology. She has worked in various prestigious tertiary hospitals and pediatric liver transplant centers throughout the Gulf region for the last 18 years, performing over 800 endoscopic procedures on children, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, varices banding, sclerotherapy, esophageal dilatation, and management of gastrointestinal bleeding. Dr. Shaden has been published in several international pediatric gastroenterology journals. She has served as a Committee Member for the Saudi Arabian Academic Fellowship training program in pediatric gastroenterology. She is a member of the Gulf Region’s pediatric gastroenterology societies. Dr. Shaden is particularly interested in children’s inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), very early onset IBD, and chronic diarrhea. Her clinical expertise includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Management of all varieties of gastroenterology disease in children like chronic abdominal pain, IBS, constipation, food allergy, Eosinophilic esophagitis, chronic diarrhea with malabsorption syndrome, intestinal failure requiring TPN, growth failure, GERD, celiac disease, cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s, and ulcerative colitis with advanced biologics treatment
  • Liver and pancreas diseases management in pediatrics
  • Endoscopy procedures include diagnostic upper gastroscope and colonoscopy
  • Esophageal varices band ligation and sclerotherapy
